Warnia Wins At Weston
The super-exciting Weston Beach quad race, which took place last weekend, was won this year by Frenchman, Jeremie Warnia. The Suzuki pilot battled through the gruelling three-hour race to bring his LT-R450 home ahead of Yamaha's 2007 British and European QX champion John Mitchell, with Carl Bunce in third.
The 22,000-strong crowd enjoyed a real show from the 500 starters around the ultra-demanding, purpose built three-mile dune course in almost perfect weather conditions. The race leaders switched positions on various occasions during the endurance stint, but with perfectly timed pit stops, Warnia managed to bring his Suzuki home in the top spot ahead of 374 finishers.
Super-all-rounder David Knight was in with the mix aboard his KTM 505 quad, but the Enduro star was unable to replicate the pace that saw him win the 2002 quad event, and despite a strong start, he crossed the line in fourth place. Knighter also competed in Sunday's main solo race but a problem with his machine forced him to retire from second position.
Firm favourite and four-times Weston winner, Paul Winrow, suffered with a bad start amongst the 500-strong field, but the Honda-ace battled his way through the pack into the top placings during the 3-hour stint. Unfortunately a breakdown towards the end of the race due to a miscalculation of fuel usage left Winrow off the podium and bitterly disappointed with a fifth place finish.
The 4x4 class was won by Simon Davies, who finished 24th overall, while Beverly Barnes won the women's class for the third consecutive year with an impressive 68th place overall.
The junior hour-long quad race was won overall by Q3 class winner, Gavin Dodds, with Brad Frost in second and Ameelie Miller in third. Keiron Clarke won the Q1 class, while Harry Miller finished in the top spot in the Q2 class.
