Justin Barclay To Build Weston Beach Race Track

Justin Barclay To Build Weston Beach Race Track

This year's Weston Beach Race circuit will be designed and implemented by track-building maestro and part-time guitarist, Justin Barclay.

Event organiser RHL Activities has built up a relationship throughout the last year with Justin, who masterminded this year's British Motocross Grand Prix track at Mallory Park. The track-expert has had involvement with many of the leading circuits in the UK, as well as the Grand Prix tracks in South Africa and Ireland.

Justin, who spends his spare time playing guitar professionally with the Maria Wilson Band, has agreed to design the course at this year's Weston Beach Race, which is being held on the 11th and 12th of October.

The complex track design has to accommodate the 1,000 competitors that will be racing at any one time and the aim will be to reduce any 'traffic jams' or bottlenecks throughout the three-hour race stint. Justin will firstly put together the design on paper before taking the reins of the diggers and excavators to prepare a challenging course with the tons of sand taken from the Weston-super-Mare seafront.

Justin said: "I'm looking forward to having involvement with this year's Weston Beach Race. It's a very special event where competitors of all abilities can take part, as well as those not normally interested in the sport. We've put together a basic design for the course and the main aim will be to make the races run as fluidly as possible. This year has been manic with all of the tracks we've been involved with, and the beach race will be a great way to finish off the season."

The track construction will take almost a week to complete, and Justin will also be responsible for moving the vast amounts of sand to return the beach back to its original state following the race.

Director of RHL Activities Gareth Hockey said: "Justin is now a well-established track builder and he did an excellent job of putting together the Mallory Park Grand Prix circuit in a relatively short time. He's had a lot of involvement with major tracks both in and out of the UK, so with his experience I hope we can achieve a new level with the Weston Beach Race course. We have a great relationship and I'm looking forward to working with Justin for this exciting, but unusual event."
